While we’re still socially distancing and working from home; our Vineyard Henderson Tribe has exciting updates to share in our November 2020 Newsletter. Read on to learn about our new partnerships, upcoming virtual events and holidays to celebrate this month!

Touro University Partnership

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming partnership with Touro University Nevada’s School of Occupational Therapy and OT Students.

Linda Frasier, Associate Professor & Academic Fieldwork Coordinator at the School of Occupational Therapy, explains the partnership:

“Touro University Nevada’s Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program is Nevada’s first program of its kind. A significant part of the occupational therapy doctoral training experience requires students to complete a capstone project in the community that is of the student’s passion and interest area. Another key piece to the capstone project is that it fulfills a need within the community. Students select a community partner who serves a population in which they have a passion to work alongside a mentor who specializes in that particular area of care.

Touro University Nevada’s School of Occupational Therapy has partnered with Vineyard Dementia Care to create student capstone experiences that will help serve the needs of individuals with dementia as well as their caregivers.

Occupational therapists (OTs) address a wide array of an individual’s needs using a client-centered and comprehensive approach to promote mental health, physical well-being and overall quality of life. OTs are also experts at lifestyle redesign and safety to promote independence and participation in everyday occupations such as activities of daily living, leisure/hobby performance and instrumental activities of daily living while considering each individual’s meaningful roles and routines. OTs also work closely with the family and/or caregivers to ensure safety, carryover of education and mental health. Caring for an individual with dementia can be a challenge that may over time impact one’s health and well-being.

OT students from TUN will begin their collaborations next year with Vineyard to develop and implement occupation-based programs. The overall goal is to focus on enhancing the health and well-being of the future residents of individuals and their family members.”

Veterans’ Day: November 11

This Veteran’s Day, we’re highlighting one of our local partners, Veterans Care Charity. This Las Vegas-based IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is committed to improving the lives of Veterans through community outreach and advocacy. What’s more, this inclusive charity serves those of all races, religions, orientations and backgrounds. Their goal is to help as many disadvantaged veterans as possible.

For example, they partnered with Code 3 Bear Charity and Street Feet Charity to get shoes and socks to homeless veterans and children. They’ve also worked with Clark County to assist homeless Veterans and their families to secure permanent housing,

TLC offers families and their babies, clothes, blankets, booties, diapers, and other hygienic supplies. Our Vineyard Tribe will be supporting TLC for our annual Vineyard Gives Holiday Drive. Last year we were able to secure a truck full of gifts however it wasn’t enough for the over 300 families they serve.

We will be gathering items at our site from November 15 – December 20. TLC asks for the following items:

  • New infant clothing
  • Hats & booties
  • Blankets
  • Baby hygiene products: baby shampoo, soap, lotion, diaper ointment, hand sanitizer
  • Baby books and therapeutic toys
  • Monetary contributions
