Valentine’s Day 2023 is coming up—are you ready to feel the love? The truth is, you don’t need to have a partner to celebrate this holiday. In fact, we’d say that loving yourself should always be your top priority, single or not. So this year, for all residents at Vineyard Senior Living, we’d recommend trying out some of these unique Valentine’s Day celebrations:

Host a Galentine’s Day

Galentine’s Day is a fun take on the original Valentine’s Day holiday—but instead of a romantic dinner for two, participants choose to celebrate the friendships that make every day brighter.

If you are single and surrounded by incredible, loving women in your community, a Galentine’s Day celebration is in order. Now, the official party planning is up to you, but we’ve got a few ideas to help you get started:

  • Schedule a movie night at home
  • Host a baking competition
  • Attend a craft class
  • Book a spa day
  • Plan a Galentine’s Day brunch

Now, don’t get us wrong. We know it can be tough to do Valentine’s Day without a significant other. But that’s why Galentine’s Day is so powerful! When no one else is there, our friends always show up. So, that’s why you should plan a fun activity with the friends who mean the most to you.

Go to Dinner with Other Single Residents

Other single residents are probably feeling the same way you are when it comes to Valentine’s Day. People crave connection; it’s a part of human nature. But as we’ve said, being single doesn’t mean you have to spend your Valentine’s Day 2023 alone.

Going out to dinner with other single residents is a beautiful way to celebrate this romance-centric holiday. You can appreciate each other’s company while enjoying delicious, nutritious meals together. This way, no one is lonely on Valentine’s Day, and you can enjoy a great meal.

Have a Self-Love Day

If you are single this Valentine’s Day, host a self-love day. You deserve some pampering and you don’t have to wait on anyone else to make it happen. Spend the day doing all your favorite activities, nourishing your mind and body and eating your favorite foods. Your self-love day could include the following:

  • Booking a reservation at your favorite restaurant
  • Painting your nails
  • Enjoying a warm bubble bath
  • Buying yourself a Valentine’s Day gift
  • Baking your favorite dessert
  • Watching your favorite movie
  • Redecorating your living space

No matter how you do it, your self-care day should be full of the things you love (no matter how silly or small).

Visit with Family Members

If you have family nearby, plan to visit them on Valentine’s Day. Many parents are looking for babysitters for their Valentine’s dates, so this is a great time to watch your grandkids! Spending time with family will help you feel connected and loved (and solidify your position as the favorite grandparent). You can invite your family to stop by your Vineyard Senior Living community or visit their home.

Enjoy the Outdoors

Are you someone who loves biking, walking, visiting parks or spending time in nature? Use this Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to nourish your soul in the great outdoors.

Sometimes, you need sunshine and fresh air to combat negative emotions on Valentine’s Day. When you are outside, the sun boosts “happy chemicals” in your brain, making you feel more positive overall. It’s a good idea to enjoy some outdoor time on Valentine’s Day, even if you take a quick walk around your community. You can invite other single residents to join you. Exercise is healthy and mood-boosting, so the more, the merrier!

Make Cards for Your Loved Ones

Acts of service can help you feel more fulfilled this Valentine’s Day. If you are spending this holiday alone, set aside time to write heartfelt cards for the people you love. The loved ones in your life will appreciate your Valentine’s Day cards, and this activity will keep your mind off anything that might bring you down.
